This essay is the combined work and research of 110 boys and girls in the 6th classes in Trinity Primary School. All of their work and research was completed by Distance Learning on Google Classroom. In the course of their research, the children have learned so much from their families, parents, grandparents and friends about the War of Independence and in particular the Burning of Tuam in 1920 which will have its centenary in July of this year. We acknowledge the assistance of Dr Jarlath Deignan and past pupil, Martin O’Donoghue for all their assistance in researching this historical event. This essay has been entered in the Department of Education and Skills Decade of Centenaries Schools Irish History Competition for Primary schools. Many thanks to Bernie Hannon and John Mulrooney for taking the photographs for the presentation.
